Role Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Optimization Engineer / Senior Software Engineer with a strong background in applied mathematics, optimization, and software development. This role is central to building and enhancing our decision-support platform, with a particular focus on the health insurance and employee benefits domain. You will work at the intersection of advanced algorithm design and scalable software engineering to develop solutions that impact millions of individuals making critical financial and healthcare decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and optimize mathematical models that drive personalized financial and health insurance recommendations.
  • Build scalable, production-grade software in Python, integrating optimization engines with data pipelines and user-facing applications.
  • Collaborate with product, data science, and domain experts to translate business requirements into robust engineering solutions.
  • Research and apply advanced optimization techniques (linear, nonlinear, stochastic, integer programming, etc.) to real-world benefit and insurance problems.
  • Ensure software reliability, performance, and maintainability through best practices in engineering.
  • Stay current with industry trends in financial planning, healthcare, and benefits technology to inform product strategy.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Advanced degree in Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong experience with optimization modeling and algorithms (e.g., linear/nonlinear programming, stochastic optimization, constraint programming).
  • Proficiency in Python and familiarity with optimization libraries (e.g., Pyomo, Gurobi, CPLEX, SciPy).
  • Solid software engineering skills, including version control, testing, and CI/CD practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work across interdisciplinary teams.

Preferred:

  • PhD or MS with a focus in optimization, applied mathematics, or a quantitative engineering discipline.
  • Prior experience in the health insurance, employee benefits, or healthcare analytics domain.
  • Experience deploying optimization models in cloud-based environments (AWS).
  • Familiarity with data visualization and API integration.
